Short and sweet: I'm justa 'nother opinionated somebody with a keyboard, a gift of gab, and a chip on each shoulder to keep me level.
Life story: In search of a life. End of story.
C'mon buddy, there's more to it than that: Okay, here's some massive unspooling:
born to an engineer/panhandler and his wife, who interestingly enough entertained notions of becoming a taxidancer some fifteen years prior to my arrival (no, not really -- she's got degrees and letters herself, psychology and English.) Grew up in modest middle-class accommodations in a metro DC enclave. Public schooled from the jump, just as my older and younger brothers were. Gifted academically, awkward socially, especially once middle school hit. And it hit like a sumbitch. The running joke: I'd hafta buy a good time just to get to have one. Survived school, worked like a madman, top 10% of the high school graduating class.
Onto college. University of Maryland. The one in College Park, the one that counts. College too, hit like a sumbitch. Freshmen fifteen (plus 5). Academic warning the end of my first year there. Breakdown. Breakthrough, Recommital. Effective death of bad habits. Scholastic ones, anyway. Dean's List, end of my second year. True story. Majored in Communication. B.A., spring '04. Two years later, summer '06: UMUC, grad certficiate program in Information Assurance. Through this program, I am now able to assure people that yes, they have information. Completed, fall '07. Next stop: UMD, Information Management master's program. When I get around to it.
Oh, and I write. Fiction. Flicks. Poetry. I can assure you, it is a labor. Of love? Perhaps. Gonna get published/produced/seen one day. That's the plan. It'll happen. And you can say, "I knew that fool when he was a quiet nobody who sat in the back of those Law classes."
Influences/Cultural Interests: to name but a few: Sun-Tzu. Marshall Mcluhan. Ralph-Vaughn Williams. Charles Mingus. Sun Ra. Madlib. J. Dilla (and Soulquarians in general.) Pete Rock. David Axelrod. late 60's Chicago soul music, esp. cuts from the Cadet Concept catalogue (peace to Richard Evans and Charles Stepney for their service.) Motown. Stax/Volt. Blue Note. Philadelphia Int'l. Hendrix's Axis: Bold as Love. Bob Marley's Exodus. Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde. Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffitti. Most forms of IDM/downtempo/nu jazz/whatever. David Mamet. Michael Mann. Scorsese. Kurosawa. Phillip K. Dick. Harlan Ellison. James Ellroy. David Simon. And the list goes on . . .
:) :) :)
